Examining God’s Word
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,
I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life.”
John 8:12
Evaluating Our Garden
Light spreads. It can’t help itself. It moves in and takes over dark spaces and chases shadows from a room. Even when the light is weak, or only a flicker, it brings a brightness that draws attention away from darkness. It’s like a wisteria vine or kudzu; it spreads over everything around it.
The same goes for shining the light of Jesus. The more time we spend shining His light to those in darkness, the more souls we can reap for Him.
We don’t have to succumb to the evil around us and sit in the dark. We can spend our valuable time walking in the light.
Experiencing Seasons
Seeing people struggle under the weight of darkness saddens me. Like you, I can see today’s endless negativity—the despair, debating, disagreements, disunity, dysfunction, and destruction. I can see a world in turmoil. I clearly see how:
- we continue to hurt one another
- how marriages are barely hanging on
- parents and children are breaking each other’s hearts
- addiction is ruining lives
- sickness is affecting loved ones and their caregivers
- grief is ravaging souls
- people are lonely, even in crowds
- families are struggling to make ends meet
- churches are divided and splitting
- businesses are struggling and failing
- countries continue to engage in war
- governments are destroying themselves and their people
- I personally struggle with my own attitude and actions
Sure, I can see how dark and evil the world really is. I can also agree that things don’t look too bright. I don’t like what I see. Sometimes, it seems like there isn’t enough light to chase the darkness away.
However, I don’t want to sit down and succumb to the darkness. I desire to get up and walk in the light and stand strong. I want to shine bright until my life ends. I hope others will see God’s light in me on the darkest of days.
Embracing Solace
Jesus shines light that is bright enough to chase all the scary, dark shadows from every corner of the world—from hearts, homes, and under the beds.
His light brings the comfort we need. It’s up to us to spend time in it and spread it to the people living in the shadows.
Enjoying Simplicity
The neat thing about light is that the more we shine it, the more it spreads, and the more it spreads, the brighter the world becomes. God’s plan may seem simple but it works. When we walk in the light of Jesus, the world will see Him shining in us.
Employing Solutions
Light has to spread. That’s what it does. If we want to reap a harvest for God, we must spread His light in the world.
One way to do that is to share the fruit He produces in us through His Spirit, as seen in Galatians 5:22-23:
- Love
- Joy
- Peace
- Longsuffering
- Gentleness
- Goodness
- Faith
- Meekness
- Temperance
This harvest brings light that chases away the gloominess of the dark evil seen today. There is no better way to spend our time than walking in the light and shining it for others to see,
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25
