Examining God’s Word
“See then that ye walk circumspectly,
not as fools, but as wise,
Redeeming the time,
because the days are evil.
Wherefore be ye not unwise,
but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:15-17
Evaluating Our Garden
Pause a minute to consider…what condition do you find your life’s garden in right now? Did you see fruit from your efforts last year? Did you see the harvest you desired from what you planted? Did you use your time is the wisest ways? Did you pursue God’s will for your daily life? Were you overcome with evil or did you overcome with good?
Now, give thought to this year. Are you ready to produce fruit? Is your soil ready, or do you need to clean it out, turn it over, and fertilize it? Would you like to proceed as is or see a productive change to your fruitfulness? Is there evil hindering your growth? Do you need more wisdom on what, when, and where to sow? How much time are you able or willing to give to your growth and fruitfulness?
Experiencing Seasons
As I consider last year, I see that in some areas I saw fruit and met the goals my husband and I longed to see and pursued. In other areas, I see that I neglected some things and depleted my energy and resources. In some ways I feel stronger, and, in other ways, I’m worn slap out.
There were plenty of occasions I could have been wiser with my time and efforts. Hopefully, I learned from my experiences and can improve in the areas I faltered or failed.
While I tried to incorporate God’s will and instructions into each day, there were definitely days when I’m sure He felt left out of my intentions and plans. On those days, I felt overwhelmed and overcome by the difficulties and negativity around me. No doubt, that is when I needed God even more. Those were the days I realized how foolish I am to walk blindly through my tasks trying to handle things on my own without Him.
I know my Creator wants to be a part of my days. I start every New Year with hope, plans, and a belief that I’ll stay committed to Him, holiness, and the habits required to reap a fruitful harvest. I want to obey God’s instructions, do good deeds for others, and see goals reached. I want to be an overcomer.
Embracing Solace
I take comfort in seeing a harvest from my labor. I like it even better when I don’t unwisely overwhelm my schedule and allow time to do what is important and needed to see that fruitfulness come to fruition.
Enjoying Simplicity
When we redeem our time in Godly and wise ways, we will see the fruit of our labors. God promised. We sow, we reap.
Employing Solutions
Growing a healthy, productive garden isn’t easy. Bad elements threaten gardens on a daily basis. Our lives are threatened with evil regularly. Our growth is hurt and hindered in many ways.
When we follow God’s plan for protecting our hearts, homes, and gardens, we have a better chance of surviving the problems and pestilences that fight against our productivity.
Let’s revisit the theme passage and the main instructions given to us:
- Walk circumspectly
- Redeem the time
- Be not unwise
- Understand what the will of the Lord is
