Delighting Myself In, Committing My Way To, and Trusting in the Lord This New Year

“Delight thyself also in the Lord:
and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart
Commit thy way unto the Lord;
trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
Psalm 37:4-5

Now I know. Now I see why God didn’t lead me to pursue fresh plans or follow my dreams and desires last year. He knew what I didn’t. He knew what was beyond the horizon. He knew I would be needed in other ways than my plans and projects would take me. And, He was right!

Last year held many unexpected experiences and surprises full of new opportunities, obligations, and obstacles. Some we were able to savor and enjoy and others we survived and had to take one day at time. But, each day was always blessed with God’s sweet grace and guidance. When we felt pushed beyond our limits, our Creator gave us strength to press on. 

Today, as we look at the (now, seven day old) New Year, (sadly, with one less loved-one) I’m feeling open to the fresh breeze of tomorrow’s horizon. I’m content with letting God give the direction and guide the decisions.

DELIGHTING MYSELF IN THE LORD

This year I want to delight in Him and the simple desires of my heart that he has planned. I want to rest in the safety of his provision and protection.

I’m delighted to think that God’s Word and Ways are the perfect gifts for this life and take us exactly where we need and want to go. I’m delighted that our Creator cares about our struggles and sorrow. I’m grateful that he not only sees us, but loves us tremendously.

COMMITTING MY WAY TO LORD

God has been such a patient and gracious teacher this past year. He continued daily to teach me to let go of the reins of my life and commit my way to Him.

I’m committing to do just that this year, wholeheartedly, without reserve.

And, so far this year, I feel a sense of calm about what may or may not be on the horizon, knowing that whatever lies ahead, He will carry me through.

TRUSTING IN THE LORD

It’s comforting to know I can trust in the Lord on the clear days, when things are peaceful, and on the cloudy days, when I can’t see the plans ahead. I’m so thankful that God will bring things to pass that I desire even when I feel overwhelmed or stuck in the daily struggles of this earthly life.   

Delighting myself in Him, committing my way to Him, and trusting in Him gives me more solace, simplicity, and solutions than I deserve and I look forward to seeing just where the New Year will go.
