Well, I wanted to start this year off with a renewed and reinvigorated focus. Instead, I’ve found myself at an unexpected cross-road, ankle deep in thought and staring at a vast, blank horizon.

It’s puzzled me that I haven’t been able to see the path ahead. I’ve prayed, searched Scripture, pondered, and asked God to show me. Ironically, He prodded me with this thought, “Beth Rayann, you’ve never been able to see what lies ahead. You’ve just dreamed, written things in your pretty planner, and hoped they would come to pass. You’ve made plans, and then asked me to help you make it happen, and been let down when they didn’t. I’m the only one that can see what lies beyond the horizon for you. Just look toward me, and I’ll show you where to go.”
Beyond the Horizon
I’m a slow learner, but I think I got it. Only God knows how my story will go and what is beyond the horizon of today. Only He knows:
- Who I should connect with
- What I should be doing
- Where I should travel
- When things should happen
- Why I should pursue something
- How it will all take place
I get it now, and I’m learning to accept it.
I’m not in control at all. When my plans fail, it’s because they weren’t His. When he changes my direction, it’s because I’m going the wrong way. When he closes a door, it’s because the opportunity wasn’t meant for me.
Sure, it can be unnerving looking at a blank face, future, calendar, computer screen, bank account, or horizon. It can feel risky, thrilling, scary and overwhelming to not know what lies ahead or to be unsure of tomorrow.
On the Horizon
Gazing out over the horizon of the Gulf and pondering what lies beyond its wavy, distant border has become more intriguing and inspiring to me. It reminds me of looking on the horizon of tomorrow, where I can’t see ahead and the waves of life toss and turn. While I don’t know where it will lead, I know God will lead me. No matter how calm or rough the waves may be, I’m excited to see what opportunities will come with each passing wave.
This is the exciting lesson I’m learning. My Creator knows what’s on the Horizon and the life’s path that is best for me. It is my prayer that it will lead to new adventures and opportunities that go beyond what I could have imagine, planned, or designed for myself—paths that will not only be good for me, but will bring out my best, and inspire good from me.
“As we have therefore opportunity,
let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them
who are of the household of faith.”
Galatians 6:10
Life’s opportunities have a way of quietly floating in, or crashing all around us, and, then, quickly fading away before we even have a chance to realize their full potential. This year, I’m focusing on the God-given opportunities, and taking them in, knowing that whatever opportunities come my way and wherever they may lead; it will be for my well-being and the well-being of others.
Praying For You As We Grow Together.
Smiles, BRC
