Examining God’s Word
“To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose
under the heaven…
A time to love…“
Ecclesiastes 3:1&8a
Evaluating Our Garden
We have time. We have plenty of time. We may not have given it much thought, or put it on our calendar, or added it to our schedule. But, in the course of our minutes, days, weeks, months, and years, we have more than enough time to love, and more specifically, to love God, our wonderful, loving Creator.
God, through the wise king, Solomon, expressed to us, in Ecclesiastes 3, that there is a “time for every purpose under the heaven.” And, I find it interesting that “time to love” is among the verses in that chapter.
Sadly, we can take love for granted and, neglect it, not only our love from and for others, but God’s love too. In our daily busyness, we can forget that we are loved and need to spend quality time loving others.
Experiencing Seasons
This morning was peaceful. I was finishing my morning routine, a little later than I planned, and only had my Bible reading and studying left to do before starting my work day. As I walked past my Bible, laying invitingly on my loveseat, I almost kept walking and thought, “I’m running behind this morning, I’ll read it later.” I knew I wouldn’t. My mind would change focus to the tasks ahead and I would neglect to pick it up and feed on God’s nourishment. So, I stopped and took the time.
I’m learning that to know and love God I have to spend time with Him and appreciate who He is, what He does, and what His passions are. I have to take time to get to know Him better and listen to His heart. Just like in other relationships, the more time I spend with Him, the more I love Him.
Embracing Solace
We can take a lot of comfort knowing that God loves us. And, when we obey Him, and faithfully love Him back, He preserves and rewards us.
“O love the LORD, all ye his saints:
for the LORD preserveth the faithful,
and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.”
Psalm 31:23
Enjoying Simplicity
As we try to redeem the time to overcome wickedness, loving the Lord and hating evil is one simple way to do it. In return, God promises to deliver us from evil.
“Ye that love the LORD, hate evil:
he preserveth the souls of his saints;
he delivereth them
out of the hand of the wicked.”
Psalm 97:10
Employing Solutions
Throughout God’s Word we see that God loves us—every, single, one, of, us. Is it too much for Him to ask for love in return? Is it too difficult to give Him some of our time?
We are instructed in Mark 12:30 to love God with every part of us. Here’s how to do that?
“And thou shalt
love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind,
and with all thy strength:
this is the first commandment.”
Mark 12:30
We are to spend our time focusing our love on God with all our:
- Heart
- Soul
- Body
- Strength
That means we have to put our all into taking time with Him. It’s only right that we spend time loving our Creator. After all, He gave us this time to live.
