Examining God’s Word
“See then that ye walk circumspectly,
not as fools, but as wise,
Redeeming the time,
because the days are evil.
Wherefore be ye not unwise,
but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:15-17
Evaluating Our Garden
Here we are racing into a new calendar with a fresh start and a chance to make the most of the time we’ve been given. Are we ready to walk or run into this New Year? Have we considered what God would like us to do and what desires, dreams, or goals we’d like to accomplish? Do we have difficulties to overcome or relationships to mend? Do we have long task lists with limited time, budgets, and skills to see them through? What will we face and how will we finish the race before us?
God’s Word tells us that the days are filled with evil. We know that’s true. We also run into evil intentions, actions, and behaviors daily. We see it in us and others. We hear about it on the news, in social media, and experience it in our homes and surroundings. The question is, how do we overcome evil with good this year, as Romans 12:21 instructs us to do?
Hold on to your winter caps. It involves “Redeeming the time.” Just like with any New Year’s resolution, we have to know the reason we’re doing something, make it a consistent habit, and follow through to see results. So, get your sneakers on and join me as we dig deeper into this topic and learn to redeem our time one step at a time.
Experiencing Seasons
I’m coming into this New Year with a fresh perspective and focus on how I spend my time. After reading Ephesians 15:15-17, I was intrigued by what “Redeeming the time” means and why it is important.
The evil in this world can be overwhelming at times. It can overtake my thoughts, emotions, and responses before I know it. When I read these verses, I felt God prodding me to give thought to using my time more wisely and not ending it focused on negative thoughts or useless and unwise endeavors.
Embracing Solace
Reading and studying God’s Word is one place I will spend my time. It brings a comfort I cannot explain. If you read and study the Bible, you know what I mean.
Enjoying Simplicity
I think we all understand how much evil hurts, harms and hinders our lives. However, we can overlook the simplicity and power that redeeming our time and doing good has to counter the complexities of evil and eliminate its destruction from our hearts and homes.
Redeeming in the Greek means, “to buy up, that is, ransom; figuratively to rescue from loss (improve opportunity).” To save our time from loss, we have to use it wisely.
Employing Solutions
Only our Creator knows what lies ahead this year. He will go before us and provide the strength, guidance, and resources to apply the appropriate solutions to the situations, stresses, and struggles we’ll face. For now, we can focus our time on things that are good and bring solace to our hearts and simplicity to our homes.
As we look at redeeming our time this year, let’s put our best foot forward by keeping our faith strong and our lives fruitful. The more good we do, the less evil can occupy our time.

“The more good we do, the less evil can occupy our time.” This is so simple, but often times I think we over complicate things. Simplicity will be key in 2024 for me.

Hey Aly, thanks for your reply.
Strange as it is…it’s the simple things in life that I complicate the most.
Simplicity is the one of the keys to redeeming the time I’m finding.
