“But when the fruit is brought forth,
immediately he putteth in the sickle,
because the harvest is come.”
Mark 4:29
Yay for autumn! Yay for cooler temperatures, vibrant color changes, pumpkins, pumpkin pies, pumpkin rolls, candy corn, soups with cornbread, hot cider, tea, and chocolate, sunflowers, wild flowers, fall décor, spiced candles, soft sweaters, fleece jackets, cozy blankets, bike rides, picnics, porch sitting, bonfires, roasted marshmallows, and more. I know it sounds so cliché but, “I love fall!” While I truly appreciate each season, fall is my favorite. It’s such a welcomed reprieve to the hot summer and a refreshing ending to another year full of all the blessings and burdens that have transpired on the slow and long days. Fall holds a special place in my heart as a gift from the Creator that keeps on giving. I’m thankful for the many colorful ways we can acknowledge this beautiful season of celebrations.
Thankful for Fall Indicators
The nice fall weather invites me outside to savor the comfort of the cool, fresh breezes and bright, golden, floral views. By the end of summer I’m ready for October and watch for early indications that leaves are turning and falling. I enjoy watching the slow changes take place as the season rises to its peak performance. It is one of Creation’s most spectacular natural events.
Thankful for Fall Plans
Many people make annual trips to find and observe the beautiful displays nature has to offer all around the world. I’ve always been intrigued and grateful for those who document their travel experiences with pictures, videos, and books and share their excursions with people like me who can’t travel to faraway places each year. I know it’s not like being there personally, but it suffices in a pinch, and brings the pleasurable views closer to home.
If we can’t get away to the choice travel spots to see the fall foliage, we can always plan little “stay-cations” at home and celebrate the season locally in our own ways. We can purposefully appreciate autumn’s subtle changes no matter where we live, whether it be in the north, south, east or west. Check your local listings for activities and events and plan to get out and enjoy the season’s blessings.
Thankful for Fall Activities
October is when my husband and I like to take our vintage 1946 Chevrolet truck out for an evening sunset cruise, a quick drive to a farmer’s market, or a spontaneous ride on a back road to nowhere. It’s also when we go to our local “Cruisin’ the Coast” event and ride up and down our South Mississippi Coast with cruisers from all around the world. To us it’s what our fall is all about.
Lately, I’ve been noticing the changes fall is bringing to my doorstep—cooler mornings and the need for a light-weight jacket. It’s nice enough to stay outside longer. Leaves are gracefully sailing down and landing on the porch. My plants are in full bloom. Wildflowers are brightening the landscape. Friends are sharing from their bountiful harvest and we are using the air conditioner less.
Life may be full of unrest, insecurity, and conflicts in many aspects of our lives, but the Creator of the world is still in control. His plans are still in play, His seasons are still changing and bringing beauty to Creation, His gardens are growing and producing, and I’m grateful for the fall blessings.
