“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do,
do it with thy might;
for there is no work, nor device,
nor knowledge, nor wisdom,
in the grave, whither thou goest.”
Ecclesiastes 9:10
I enjoy making things. I’m not that great at it, but I enjoy working creatively with my hands. It’s such an enjoyable pastime and stress reliever. When I make home good items, I get lost in the moment and forget about my schedule, struggles, or sadness. It’s motivating to gather materials and tools together and work and make something useful, pretty, or fun. I also find creative and talented people to be so inspiring and am in awe of the wonderful items they make. It’s awesome how the fountain of creativity never runs low. I love how the Creator of the World created us in His image and made us with the abilities to be creative and colorful like Him. He also gave us the desire for productivity. All we have to do is figure out what we want to do and do it with all our might.
Enjoying What We Do
Trying new things is fun, even if I only do it once; I enjoy learning and creating projects I’ve never done before. Half the fun of the creative process is deciding, designing, and determining what to make and how to accomplish it. It is the part I enjoy most of about making an item come together.
I prefer to make useful household items for personal use and for gifts. Although, I don’t like projects that require too much time (or I get bored) and that goes for the mass production of items. I enjoy smaller projects.
Some of the things I’ve made to date include:
- Bookmarkers
- Coasters
- Dish Cloths
- Doilies
- Clothespin Holder
- Silverware Holders
- Jewelry Bags
- Table Runners
- Placemats
- Curtains
- Pillows
- Aprons
- Cards
- Napkin Rings
- Footstool
The main rule I have for my hobby time and making things is that I enjoy doing it. The minute I’m not relaxing and enjoying a project is when I put it down and move on to something more interesting. Trial and error are teaching me what I really enjoy and I look forward to my playtime.
Enjoying Doing It Now
Some days, just sitting to brainstorm ideas or plan out a project is enjoyable to me. But, eventually, I have to begin, if I want to see productive results from my creative ideas.
I’ve been guilty of procrastinating my plans while dragging out the preparation. Sometimes, I day-dream too long, get distracted by other projects, and lose interest. As a result, my friends and I have agreed to quit buying new gadgets and materials unless we plan on using them or making something right away.
If we’re going to do, we have to do it now while we’re living. None of us knows how much time we have on this earth. When our lives are over, the opportunity to accomplish the creative things we dreamed of will be over too. Now is a good time to start.
Enjoying What We Did
Once we accomplish our projects, we should enjoy or share them. We shouldn’t make things and stuff them in closets or storage bins. Making useful and decorative items is great. But, if we don’t enjoy our efforts or reap the benefits, why would we waste time making things?
Life is short. Let’s enjoy what we do with all our might.
Bring It Home
Do you enjoy making things and, if so, what do you make?
Praying for you as we grow together,

I enjoy trying to be creative in different ways than writing. Photograpy, for one. I also love using colored pens or pencils to “mind map” something I am going to write. I think it’s a prettier way of outlining 😁. I also like to be creative in the kitchen, trying new recipes or making my own salad dressings. PS – Love your photography!!

Thanks for sharing your kind words and great reply Ellen.
Your pictures are beautiful! I especially like your nature pictures. (Except for the snake on the porch!) I also think the colorful mind-mapping technique is a creative tool for outlining and processing things for sure. It makes putting your brain on paper fun. Wish I lived closer, I love tasting new recipes! (Wink)
Have fun creating!

Tracy you are very creative and a great cook! Your beautiful daughters are proof of that.
Being frugal is also a valuable art for sure. (I’m trying to improve there.)
Thanks for your kind reply.

Hello Ms. Beth🙂🙂🙂
Thank you for the devotion today. As I’m reading, it came to my mind the verse: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the LORD, and not unto men. Colossians 3:23
For the last three weeks I’m helping my husband renovating the kitchen and the floors of our son. At first I was thinking how on earth I’m going to help him out it was a tough job to do. I even have no idea of what crowbar is 🙂 and how it is being used🙂🙂🙂looking at my husband how he does things, indeed it was tough 🙏🙏🙏 anyways the LORD kept on reminding me of the verse. We can find joy of what we are doing if we do it for the LORD and not for men. When we do things out of love nothing is too hard. I kept on reminding myself. Nothing is impossible with God. Praise God the things that I don’t know how to do, now I know because of God’s amazing grace. Love you and. Beth🥰🥰🥰

God’s grace is so amazing Anna! I love how he gives us the ability to learn new skills to help others and gives us strength to do it when it’s tough.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Now, you’ll be wondering how you ever lived without a “crowbar.” (Wink)

Beth,
I love crafting and our shopping escapades. I am touched by the verse you chose Ecclesiastes 9:10 and the one Anna referenced Colossians 3:23. They remind me that I make choices. It is my responsibility to follow through to God’s glory, not man’s.
Beth Rayann Corder says
You are a great crafter and I enjoy our outings too Nina.
Those verses resonated with me too. It’s a big responsibility to bring Glory to God with our choices for sure.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
