“The aged women likewise, that they be…
teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women…” Titus 2:3-4
Knowing God’s will is easier to comprehend than we may think or have been taught. It’s not some elusive mystery that few people get and others have to spend a lifetime trying to figure out. We don’t have to have some special, divine insight to know what God wants for our lives. Everything we need to know is available in the pages of God’s inspired Word. Take the book of Titus for instance; it teaches us a lot about our roles and responsibilities. One of those roles includes “teacher” and, amazingly, it applies to each of us. Whether or not we accept that role is up to us.
Sometimes we’re given roles we don’t ask for, expect or want. Those are the times when we may want to pass our duties on to others. However, God told older women to teach younger women—no exceptions, no exclusions. Remember…
“If you’re older than someone, you’re a teacher.”
If you’re younger than someone, you’re a student.”

God desires that we all become teachers and students of good things. To procrastinate or pass it off is simply disobedience to God’s Will for our lives.
Sure, this can be difficult if you had bad role models in your life. It’s hard to teach good things when you’ve been shown bad examples. But, now that we know what our responsibilities are, it’s up to us to look for women that will teach us, and, then, be a teacher for others.
“And let us consider one another to provoke
unto love and to good works:” Hebrews 10:24
Emojis, Instagram reels, Facebook posts, YouTube videos, and Pinterest boards can provide help and resources but they don’t completely cut it for this task. Teaching takes more purposeful input and personal one-on-one involvement to make a true difference. There are many creative ways to accomplish this job.
Calling, texting, emailing or visiting can help us:
- Connect and Comfort
- Listen and Learn
- Listen and Teach
- Encourage and Exhort
We can host get-togethers for one, or a group, and offer a listening ear or a helping hand. In the past, women shared time doing chores and crafts, or served together in church and community activities. The ultimate goal is to learn, teach and encourage each other.
Even now, as I find myself in the category of an “older” woman, I still yearn for ladies in my life who will continue to teach, inspire, mentor or motivate me to be a better version of myself. I watch for those who are willing to show me the ropes and keep me out of the ditches. I’m drawn to ladies who are willing to share their Bible knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience.
Teaching is God’s plan for passing knowledge to the next generation. If we neglect our roles, the young women following after us won’t have what they need to live how they are meant to live. We owe it to each other to learn God’s Word, listen to Godly instruction, live out God’s will, and lead others down the path of good works.
I pray you will join me as we continue studying what these roles and responsibilities look like for us as we take the next step of life’s journey together. Let’s remember, we’re never too old to learn…or teach.

Thanks, Beth, for this inspiring blog. It brings to mind two of my first spiritual teachers when I came to Christ. They were role models who set an example for me and I continue to live accordingly. I also follow their lead as I influence women younger in my life.

Karen, my heart is filled with gratitude for the influence your mentors had on you and the influence you have shared with me. You have remained a faithful encourager and motivator to me since the first time I was introduced to you through the Writers Guild Course.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
